The people of Isibor Ewuare Village in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State have appealed to the state government for urgent intervention in addressing the dire lack of basic infrastructure in their community.

The villagers, through their leaders, lamented the absence of electricity, functional schools, a market, and accessible roads, noting that their survival thus far has depended heavily on communal self-help initiatives.

One such effort is the ongoing construction of a health centre, which they have embarked upon with limited resources and now seek government support to complete.

Speaking at a press briefing over the weekend, the Ozukpogieva (Second-in-Command) of the village, Pa. Igbinogunn Felix Osevbunu, stressed the need for government presence in the community.

He described the living conditions in the area as deplorable and urged authorities to intervene to improve the standard of living for residents.

Pa. Osevbunu also took the opportunity to address allegations of land grabbing, firmly denying any such practices within the community.

According to him, land grabbing is considered taboo in Isibor Ewuare Village, which he said upholds strict adherence to honesty and transparency in its dealings with developers.

“The allegations are baseless and completely false. We do not engage in land grabbing or dishonest acts. Such claims are merely the fabrications of those who do not wish us well,” he stated.

“We are firmly committed to supporting our revered Benin Monarch, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II, and we abide fully by his directives.”

He emphasised that the village’s commitment to Benin customs and traditions means no parcel of land is sold to more than one developer.

Supporting these claims, the Ozukpogieha (Third-in-Command), Pa. Ogieriakhi Okpugie Eboigbe, and the village youth leader (Okaighele), Osayamen Odoruyi, assured prospective land developers of the safety of their investments.

They maintained that Isibor Ewuare Village has no involvement in land grabbing, describing the community as law-abiding and loyal to the Benin Kingdom.

“We will never act against the instructions of our great Oba because we understand the traditional consequences,” said Odoruyi.

“The public should disregard the unfounded accusations being peddled against our community.”

The village leaders commended the Oba of Benin for his efforts in fostering peace and progress across Edo State, praying for his continued reign and guidance.
