SOKOTO – The Sokoto State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has denied reports suggesting it endorsed Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko as a potential running mate to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

In a statement released on Sunday, ALGON State Chairman and Executive Chairman of Tambuwal LGA, Alhaji Abba Shehu Tambuwal, clarified that the comment was the personal opinion of Alhaji Abdullahi Yarima, the Association’s Secretary and Chairman of Kebbe LGA.

“Our colleague was merely expressing his private view,” the statement said. “It does not reflect the position of ALGON in Sokoto State or nationwide.”

ALGON stressed that Senator Wamakko, who currently represents Sokoto North Senatorial District, has not declared any ambition to contest for the vice presidency, nor has the All Progressives Congress (APC) initiated discussions along those lines.

“The speculation is premature, misleading, and baseless. No such decision has been taken by the party or Senator Wamakko himself,” Tambuwal added.

The Association urged public officials to exercise caution and avoid making speculative or unauthorised statements, particularly on sensitive political matters.

“We call on the public to disregard the statement. It was not endorsed by ALGON and does not represent its official position,” the statement concluded.
