The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that the 2025/2026 league season will mark the official launch of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in Ghanaian football.
This decision follows recent training sessions and consultations held with FIFA’s Competition and Training Department, which has been working with officials in Ghana over the past few days to provide hands-on training on VAR operations.
In a statement released on Saturday morning, the GFA confirmed that VAR would be introduced in the upcoming league season, with this year’s FA Cup set to serve as a pilot phase for the new technology. The association expressed optimism that VAR will enhance the accuracy and fairness of officiating in Ghanaian football.
